I have been asked more than once to make a grocery list for those just starting to shy from the “Standard American Diet”. For those wanting to eat seed oil, dye, and glyphosate free! While eating this way isn’t 100% possible 100% of the time.. It IS possible in our own homes!
Last week was the first time since June that I purposely brought a seed oil laden snack into our home. Since June we haven’t had a SINGLE item in our home that had seed oils in them! I used to think that it was impossible and expensive to live this way.
But then I realized two things from our ongoing health journey and talking to others that want to live this way.
9/10 money isn’t the hang up for living this way- it’s the time. Cooking from scratch for three meals a day takes an enormous amount of time. It’s easier and more convenient to grab take out on the way home. BUT grabbing that take out is also quadruple the price!
I created this grocery list in the hopes that it would ease a bit of the burden that comes with swapping out your diet.
A few things to note when shopping:
Always buy organic. If organic isn’t available, buying REAL food is still better than processed!
Source locally before anything else. Find a freezer on FB Marketplace and get half a cow! Ours has lasted us a year now. We bought a grassfed/finished cow and it was still LESS expensive than purchasing generic meat at the store.
Limit the amount of canned food you use. Canned food leeches heavy metals into your diet. Buying uncooked beans will always be a cheaper option but definitely an inconvenient option! We personally use canned food at least once a week.
#convenience
If you are on a really tight budget, opt out of snacks. Opt into organic meat. This will be the best bang for your buck. Red meat holds the highest nutrient content out of any food. The more nutrients you have the less hungry you become. You won’t feel the need to reach for the processed snacks if you first fill yourself up with nutrient dense food!
Did you see the local egg sign? Knock on their door! Seriously! Do it! Up until the past few months, Ben was picking up eggs on his way home from work that were just down the road from us. They cost a whopping 3$ a dozen.
The food industry makes BILLIONS of dollars a year. Dorito’s have an entire facility dedicated to making their chips MORE addictive than cocaine. (This is not an exaggeration! Look it up!)
Your local farmer makes jack squat and works his tail off every.single.day.
Investing in your health isn’t JUST helping you- it’s investing into your family and every generation to come. Disease in America is on the rise. Take one step everyday to becoming the healthiest version of yourself. Go back to the way God intended us to eat. You can do this!
