FAQ

What are your candles made out of?

We are one of the ONLY companies that uses a blend of coconut oil & beeswax with NO additives. Almost all cocobeeswax candles contain "food grade paraffin" aka edible tar.  We strive to be the cleanest option on the market, so even a touch of tar in our candles is unacceptable.

The lovely scent you smell is a blend of toxin free fragrance & essential oils.

To top it all off, we have a crackling wood wick.

What is your fragrance free from?

Paraben Free
Phthalate Free
Lyral Free
Lilal Free
Formaldehyde Free
Sulfate Free

I've heard of other candles claiming to be non toxic.. how are yours different?

Most candles make the claim that they're phthalate free, but then it stops there. They're still loaded with chemicals!

Our candles are free from carcinogens, reproductive toxins, and other potentially hazardous chemicals often found in fragrance.

They abide by one of the most stringent policies in the world known as Proposition 65 which regulates substances officially listed by California as causing cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Not only do we observe Prop 65 but Salt and Light fragrances abide by all the European protocol, policies, and guidelines to make clean products.

How strong is the scent in your candles?

We use the highest scent to wax ration possible to ensure a full fragrance.  We do not use toxic chemical boosters found in many commercial candle brands so our candles do not have overpowering scents.  We recommend using multiple candles if using in a larger space or a room with high ceilings.

Does your wick produce soot?

You can be ensured that our burn will be as close to soot free as possible due to the wood wick!

How do I prevent a high flame?

If you are experiencing a high flame, your wick is too long. This can occur even if you've been burning your candle for a long period of time during a single use. Always trim your wick to 1/4" and burn your candle no longer than 4 hours at a time.

How do I take care of a wood wick candle?

The first burn is the most important!
Give your candle enough burning time to develop a melted wax pool that goes all the way to the edge of the container on the first use - this can take up to a few hours, depending on candle size.
Believe it or not, your jar candles have a kind of “wax-memory,” and once a burning pattern has been established, it can be hard to change.
If you don’t allow your candle enough time to form a full melt pool on the first burn, a little depression or “tunnel” may start to form around the wick.
This will make it more difficult for the wax around the edges of the jar to melt, causing the tunneling effect to continue with each burn.
To prevent this issue, make sure to give your candle enough time to develop a melted wax pool that goes all the way to the edge of the container the first time you use it.
This melt pool can take 2 hours or more to form, depending on the candle size, so wait to light up your new candle until you have some time to “burn” … sorry, I couldn’t help it! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
After the first use, you don’t have to let a full wax pool form every single time, but it is ideal if you want to get the most life out of your candle. Just make sure give your jar candles a nice long burn every so often to “reset” the wax memory and prevent any tunneling.
2) Keep your wood wick trimmed short and free of charred bits
For optimal burn, keep your wood wick trimmed to about ⅛”, and clean off any burnt wood from previous use.
Other than the tunneling problem, if your wood wick candle won’t stay lit it’s probably because the wick is too long, or it needs to be trimmed clean of charred material.
Remember it’s not the wood fueling your candle’s flame, it’s the wax. The flame is drawing the wax upwards through the wick, so if it’s not trimmed short and clean, the wax can’t make it to the flame.

How long can I burn my candle at a time?

Burn candles no longer than 4 hours at a time. Never leave a lit candle unattended.

How many hours will my candle burn?

Due to our wood wick, if you take proper care of your candle- you should expect around 40-50 hours of burn time!

My candle won't light, what do I do?

If your candle will not light, there is one sure fire way to get it going!

1) Cut the wick as low as it will go. Hold the flame on it for 30 seconds. BOOM! I personally have never had a candle that I can't get to light after trying this!
